What is driftwood?

Before you jump into the creative adventure of DIY driftwood , let’s talk a little about what driftwood is. You may know the name without really mastering the principle, but don’t worry: that’s what we’re here for.  Driftwood is made up of pieces of wood that the sea has shaped over time. They can come from branches , trunks or even old furniture.  In Vendée, you will find them by the shovelful on the beaches. These unique pieces have a natural beauty and each tell their own story.  And the best part? You can turn them into super stylish decorations for your home!

What to do with your pretty wood: 4 DIY driftwood ideas

To start our DIY driftwood workshop of the day, you need to do a real treasure hunt on the dunes and the beach of Saint-Jean-de-Monts.  There, find the pieces of wood that inspire you the most and make you want to bring them to life, to decorate them.   Once you’ve filled your bag with beautiful pieces of driftwood, it’s time to turn them into souvenirs! The list is not exhaustive, but we’ll give you some ideas for creations.

1 – Original photo frames

Gather some pieces of wood and make a rustic picture frame . Use glue or nails to join the pieces together.  Then go to the stores in Saint-Jean-de-Monts to choose the paint that speaks to you the most, and decorate your frame with passion and creativity!  You can then insert a photo of your vacation or a postcard from Saint-Jean-de-Monts. It’s a great way to keep memories visible in your living room, or to offer it to your grandparents.

2 – Wall decorations
